ROCKLIN, CA — Rocklin City Councilman Scott Yuill has endorsed Republican Beth Gaines for the 4th Assembly District in the March 8 special election. Scott Yuill is a tax-fighting conservative and was the leading vote-getter in Rocklin in the 2010 city council elections.

“Beth Gaines represents the values we need in the legislature. She is a conservative who cares deeply about the community and understands the need to attract job-creating businesses to our area,” said Councilman Yuill. “I know Beth will do a great job for Rocklin and for the entire 4th district.”

Scott Yuill is a 22 year Rocklin business owner and past Chairman of the Rocklin Chamber of Commerce. He was elected to the City Council in November 2006 and reelected in November of 2010, when he was the top vote-getter in the city elections.

“It is an honor to have Scott’s support,” said Gaines. “He is doing a tremendous job for the people of Rocklin and I look forward to working closely with him on ideas to improve our local economy, attract business and make government at all levels more responsible with our tax dollars.”

With Ted Gaines blowing out Roger Niello in the SD-01 Primary, it will touch off a chain-reaction.

Ken Cooley the Democrat is a huge underdog in the district which is tilted 18 points in the GOP’s favor.

This means barring something utterly amazing – Gaines wins. This vacates the AD04 seat which will touch off a feeding frenzy. Here are the prospective suitors:

1. John Allard – has been preparing to run for Assembly for a couple years. He is a City Council Member in Roseville, the largest city in the district. Allard would likely be supported by Tom McClintock, Dan Logue and a host of local electeds. Allard is termed out of Roseville City Council in 2012.

2. Scott Yuill – recently re-elected in Rocklin to City Council. He has been heavily recruited by Doug LaMalfa who needs friends after the win by Ted Gaines – given that LaMalfa’s staff have been on a revenge mission against anyone that supported LaMalfa’s primary opponent, the need for a friend is acute. Biggest question is why would Yuill run after recently getting re-elected just days ago?

Yuill and Allard would be the front-runners – Yuill would be regarded as the more moderate of the two.

3. El Dorado County Supervisor Ray Nutting. Nutting represents only about 15,000 people. He is a conservative with a reputation for being an aggressive campaigner.

4. El Dorado County Supervisor Ron Briggs. Briggs and Nutting hate each other and the El Dorado County Sheriff’s race – won by Nutting’s candidate was a small county knock down drag out for the ages. Briggs will run if Nutting runs, specifically to deny him ElDorado County’s base, and setting up a re-match of the Sheriff’s race by proxy.

5. Auburn City Councilmember Mike Holmes. He would easily be the most moderate candidate in the field – recently supporting the Auburn Unified School District Parcel Tax Measure that failed.

6. Auburn City Councilmember Kevin Hanley – endorsed Tom McClintock over Doug Ose, distinguishing himself from almost every local elected in Placer County. Could compete with Allard for McClintock endorsement if he ran.

7. Auburn City Councilmember Keith Nesbitt. Another “Auburn Moderate”.

8. Michael Babich – ran against Tom McClintock in the 2010 Primary. Conservative University Professor with a small, yet loyal following.

9. Spencer Short – Lincoln City Councilmember whose name always pops up in higher office discussions. Regarded as a moderate – just lost a battle to institute a utility tax in Lincoln, his two endorsed candidates lost to two Tea Party Members and could be subject of a recall by said Tea Party.

10. Suzanne Jones. Ran for Congress in 2008, getting 5% of Vote in the Ose v McClintock epic battle. Ran for AD-05 in 2010, got around 11% of the vote. Ran for Placer County Board of Education fall 2010, won with 38% of the vote. (4,600 votes total)

11. Donald Wilson – head consultant for Senate Veteran’s Affairs Committee. We recently re-elected to Center Unified School District board with about 700 votes. (where’s his base?)

Diana Ruslin Mailer #2 is better than mailer #1 for a couple of reasons:

1. It does not have a long endorsement list on it. Greg Janda’s second mailer still did. In this election where people are looking for the “establishment” and the “boogie man”… that could be a huge difference.

2. It was smaller. Smaller is good. Both of Janda’s Mailers were the 6 1/2 X11 and Diana’s Mailer #2 was in this format as well.

I still think Diana Ruslin Wins. This Mailer gets an 8.0 for an A-. The reason – it replaced the endorsement list with a resume’ a very, very smart move.

I also believe that Greg Janda could knock off Scott Yuill – which was not the intention of the folks that recruited Janda.

Janda raised a lot of Money. So did Scott Yuill.

Scott is an incumbent. Janda is not.

All of them visited my house – but the reason why Diana Ruslin will finish first is that her people were knocking and talking to all the houses they visited. I have that confirmed by several. Ruslin has also knocked on more doors than all the rest of the candidates combined.

In my home precinct – there are Four Diana Ruslin Yard Signs, and One Scott Yuill Yard Sign (The one in my front yard). No Janda signs at all.

I have endorsed Scott Yuill and will be voting for him on Tuesday along with Diana.

The reason Greg could beat Scott rests with Mark Klang. I have friends convinced that Klang has done the work necessary – I am also aware that Klang has walked a ton of precincts (knocking and talking).

People dismiss Mark Klang way too fast in every election – Klang is a hell of a campaigner.

Every vote Mark Klang gets takes a vote from Scott Yuill in my opinion.

In the end I think that Diana Ruslin finishes first, Yuill and Janda will be in a photo finish for second…

… but do not be suprised if Mark Klang makes a really strong showing. I mean strong.

Rocklin School Board?

Steve Paul finishes fourth.

The evidence? People have tried to roll out the fact that Amanda Tingler went to Obama’s inaguration – they forget that she got the tickets from Tom McClintock to do so.

The late mailer sent by the three incumbents – while I loved it and thought it was great – indetified them as incumbents, guaranteeing that one of them will lose.

The recent spate of sign destruction and the fact that the incumbents bought the California Voter guide slate mailer late shows they were caught flat-footed and did not take Tingler seriously.

Finally – the late hit peice put in the Rocklin Cat Pan Liner (aka the Placer Herald) in the final indicator that Both Amanda and Glenn Moeller got traction.

The communist left-wing Democrat Alex Ferriera will win re-election as his buddies spent about $10K on his behalf.

Cari Dawson Bartley wins her race for Sierra College Board

Howard Rudd wins his race for Sierra College Board as he spent $10k of his own money over Kelli Gnile whose campaign was effective and grassroots… but not enough to compete with Rudd’s Money and connections.

Let’s see how many of these I got right?

Scott Yuill / Diana Ruslin Mailer Review

Scott “The Boogie Man” Yuill checks in with a solid offering.

The mailer is replete with the obligatory monster endorsement list and the “Pictures of Scott” – and lots of them.

When I said lots of Pictures – take a look.

The most important part of the mailer – the bullets specifying that he voted for 10 Million in spending cuts and that he voted against the cable tax increase.

I defy any anti-establishment types to criticize that.

Take a look at the outside leaf – and then the front cover of the mailer.

Scott looks so pretty in that suit- now I know why there are so many pictures of him in his mailer 🙂

(I don’t even own a suit… I think I have a tie or two somewhere, maybe I’ll have to get an in-kind from someone if I run)

The negatives about Scotts’ Mailer – TOO MUCH INFORMATION! That’s really the only drawback, but it is a solid effort at 7.5. (Gets marked off for looking “establishment”.)

Diana Ruslin’s Mailer:

It is clean, crisp and matches Diana’s personality to a tee. Here I am, this is who I am – NOW VOTE FOR ME! 😉

Side One of the 8.5X11 Postcard features a quote from Conservative Assemblymember Ted Gaines – Very Good Feature.

Rocklin Needs Diana’s Leadership and I am Proud to Endorse Her Campaign!

Secondly – how many establishment types put their phone number with an invitation to call on their mail?

Third – it lists her community service… which the Sacramento Bee views as inferior to owning a business.

Side Two of the 8.5X11 mailer is the agenda – if is more thorough than any other candidate’s agenda.

I suppose between the endorsement list (which is half the size of Scott Yuill’s) and the community service list could get twisted to look “establishment”.

All in All – Diana gets an 8 for her mailer. You’ll note that I gave Janda an 8.5 in a previous post.

The reason is Janda’s mailer was smaller, to the point quicker and looked far less establishment. In another cycle – I’d have criticized it for not having enough… but 2010 is a bizarre election cycle.

The bottom line – Scott Yuill and Diana Ruslin helped themselves with their mailers.

Both of them justified this blogger’s support of them with the information put forth in their mailers.
