AD-04 Update: CDF Firefighters Join PORAC in Endorsing John Allard

The significance? These are all endorsements that Ted Gaines has had in the past. This is why they had to call John Allard “Mr. Government” as their campaign gets more isolated.

Please also note that the third ElDorado Supervisor endorsement has disappeared off of the Beth Gaines website. Not sure why.

CDF endorsement is a big deal in AD-04 – there are a lot of Forests here. Currently, the Sierra Club is suing again to stop logging in the Lake Tahoe area – logging aimed at preventing wildfires! The representative we have is critical in dealing with stuff like this…

Roseville – Small businessman and Assembly candidate John Allard has been endorsed by the CDF Firefighters. Allard is running in the 4th Assembly District.

“CDF Firefighters represents firefighters from throughout the state, and I am honored to have their support,” said Allard. “There is no question that public safety is high on my list of priorities, and CDF Firefighters and the other important public safety organizations in our region that are supporting me know I will fight further budget cuts to critical emergency services.”

The CDF Firefighters represent more than 6,500 men and women within CAL FIRE. A full service fire department with over 145 contracts in 35 different cities, they are “California’s Fire Department.” CDF’s endorsement comes on the heels of the Police Officers Research Association of California’s (PORAC) endorsement.

Allard’s long list of supporters includes the California Republican Assembly, National Tax Limitation Committee President Lew Uhler, the Roseville and Sacramento Police Officers Associations and the Young Republicans Federation of California Sacramento Chapter.

Dave Gilliard is a professional. He is hired to win elections and to do so through whatever means necessary.

Yesterday, I smelled a rat when I got an email in my inbox. There were a few reasons, 1. a PAC I had never heard of sent it (without a disclaimer on the email), 2. It was poorly written, 3. the timing suggested that is was coordinated in an attempt to generate media ahead of a mail peice.

I was not disappointed.

The author of the email, Matt Donnellan, is a College Republican friend of Andre’ Levesque – the current campaign manager of the Beth Gaines for Assembly Campaign. The local rag dutifully picked up the story.

Cozy. Almance Advisors that  placed the $25k Radio Buy for the oogabooga (sp?) tribe of Gilliard Indians from Tehama County – shares an office with… Gillard. Cozier.

However, today – we have a whole new angle! Meet Mr. Government!!!

The Horror!!!

Remember folks, Beth Gaines (aka Steve Davey) has to sign off on this stuff before it goes out. The wife of someone who has been in office almost 15 years is attacking someone in office for 6 years!!!

If you’re in Local Government like Diana Ruslin and Scott Yuill – look close.

You too can get assailed for taking a cell phone and an internet connection from the City of Rocklin! Taxpayers save thousands because City Councilmembers work from home and the city neither has to staff or maintain an office.

(remember when Roger Niello told us about Ted’s $120K in Per Diem, perks as a county supervisor, the $100K in revenue sharing? Ted took the same perks as John Allard as a Roseville Councilmember! They matter in this discussion because Beth benefitted from them, too as she reported no income of her own on her form 700’s…)

If you’re in local government like Ray Nutting or Ron Briggs – look close…

You too could be called a county/city bureaucrat! Especailly if you’re dumb enough to serve on a planning commission before getting elected to local office.

If you’re a lobbyist like Karen England (who has taken money from Ted Gaines for years and has endorsed Beth Gaines) – you too could get torched in a mailer… because Mr. Government was an employee of a group that lobbies the State Government. (so, that makes him a lobbyist, right?) If you want to run for assembly, be careful who you work for!!!

This mailer tells me a few things:

1. Beth Gaines is not raising a lot of money.

2. Beth Gaines’ lead has evaporated.

3. Dave Gilliard is having to dig deep to make a hit against John Allard.

4. When they mention that John Allard is from Roseville – they are admitting that John will torch them in Roseville.

5. The sourcing on some of the points made was deliberately vague.

The mailer had all the elements you need except telling the reader why they should support Beth Gaines. (That is a marketing Epic Fail)

It was obviously designed for the I-hate-the-Government voter with its’ theme.

In campaigns, you run as if there is no tomorrow. This is obvious – because the Gaines campaign sets everyone in local government on fire.

Somewhere, Bruce Kranz is shaking his head telling a whole lot of people, “I told you so…”

P.S. The people mentioned by name were/are endorsers of Beth Gaines.

Blogger’s Note: I am really shaking my head at this one – it looks like the double-dipping attack / signs etc really struck a nerve…

It has been said that the Gaines’ are loyal to no one and have no friends – this hit peice certainly lends credence to that charge.

The Campaign Sign That Started Today’s Email War

These signs popped up around the district.

These have been getting destroyed rapidly after going up – but the “regular” John Allard signs have not been getting touched.

Now that Beth Gaines’ has her own batch of signs to put out, we’ll see a fully engaged sign war.

Rob Matthews is the only other candidate that has signs. (at least that I’ve seen)

Feb 152011

My email box has been lighting up today.

There was a volunteer update announcing that the Beth Gaines team now has yard signs. Does this continue to suggest that team Gaines is short on funds? Allard had signs two weeks ago.

There was another announcing a Third ElDorado supervisor endoring Beth Gaines.

There was another email attacking John Allard for what looked like lunch money from a little-known PAC – it was a coordinated attack for sure as I’d expect a mailer from the main Gaines Campaign with similar subject matter in the mail soon.

Please note that Lew Uhler / National Tax Limitation Committee and the California Republican Assembly are supporting John Allard.

Then, John Allard’s latest campaign email hit my inbox:

Allard Earns Broad Endorsements From All Over the Region

Sac Bee calls him ‘the clear choice’; slams Gaines

Roseville – Small businessman and State Assembly candidate John Allard, who continues to garner endorsements from all over the 4th Assembly District region, is now counting The Sacramento Bee and the Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC) among his numerous supporters.

In its February 14 editorial “Allard is the clear choice for Assembly District 4,” The Sacramento Bee writes, “People living in the Assembly District from Roseville to Lake Tahoe should seize the moment by electing John Allard….Allard is thoughtful and will be his own man…”

The Bee went on to slam Allard’s opponent Beth Gaines, writing that it’s “not clear she is ready for office.” It cited a Rocklin Chamber of Commerce event last week where Gaines, “relied on notes to answer questions that were far from tough.”

Allard has also secured the endorsement of PORAC, the largest law enforcement association in the state and the largest statewide association in the United States, representing 60,000-plus officers including public safety officers from Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer and Alpine Counties.

“The support of The Sacramento Bee and PORAC, along with so many other individuals and organizations throughout the district, is clear evidence that my candidacy is solid and I have the experience and qualifications to put the 4th District on the radar in the State Assembly,” said Allard.

The Sacramento Bee and PORAC’s endorsements add to Allard’s long list of supporters including the California Republican Assembly, National Tax Limitation President Lew Uhler, the Roseville and Sacramento Police Officers Associations and the Sacramento Young Republicans.

No wonder why there was a pre-emptive strike from the Gaines camp (about having signs / volunteers / Sup number three)? It seems kind of like taking a screwdriver to a gunfight…

This thing is far from over and NEVER, ever count anyone named Gaines out.

Sometimes they suprise me. Read it here

Did I mention that sometimes the Sacramento Bee surprises me???

First off – they lit up Beth Gaines. No Suprise there – they endorsed Roger Niello over Ted Gaines and they have attacked Ted for years.

Secondly – I emboldened the line where they complemented Rob Matthews.

Third – they stayed in character, chiding John Allard for signing the no new taxes pledge. (while endorsing him)

People living in the Assembly district that stretches from Roseville to Lake Tahoe have an opportunity to trade up. They should seize the moment by electing John Allard.

Allard is one of seven Republicans and a Democrat running in a March 8 special election to fill the seat left vacant when Ted Gaines won the Senate seat that opened when Dave Cox died.

Allard would arrive with a firm grasp of how the Capitol works. He is a Roseville city councilman and operates a house cleaning service with his wife.

Importantly, Allard worked for 11 years as chief of staff to Tim Leslie, a former assemblyman and senator who represented the area ably. Leslie understood the virtue of treating people with civility despite policy disagreements. Allard’s demeanor is similarly old school.

Like Leslie, Allard is conservative. He signed an anti-tax pledge promising he will not raise taxes. Such pledges, pushed by professional conservatives, needlessly tie the hands of legislators.

If Allard is elected, he says he would not vote for Gov. Jerry Brown’s plan to place before voters an extension of taxes due to expire later this year. We disagree with that stand, too. But Allard is thoughtful and will be his own man on most other issues.

Among the other candidates, Rob Matthews, another Roseville Republican, is making his first run. He is straightforward and will have a future in politics.

Beth Gaines, the wife of Sen. Gaines, also is making her first run for office. Capitalizing on her husband’s fundraising base, Gaines will have sufficient money to run a race, but it’s not clear she is ready for office.

At a Rocklin Chamber of Commerce forum last week, she relied on notes to answer questions that were far from tough. In this field, Allard is the clear choice.
