(Stan Sniff Update) The Face of Failure: Assistant Sheriff Jerry Guitierrez and the Wide Open Cois Byrd “Detention” Center

We’ve documented the crisis of early releases of felons from all of the jails in Riverside County.

We’ve also documented Jail Breaks that were covered up.

We’ve documented inmates smuggling guns in to the jail aided by the terrible command decisions of Jerry Guitierrez. (Pictured in commemoration of the DUI he allegedly committed and got away with)

Now we have information that the one of the outer gates of the Cois Byrd Detention Center is broken and has been for a period of time that may or may not total 5(!) Weeks.

This means someone that is arrested and booked in to Jail (weather or not they get cut loose early) gets brought over then a correctional deputy walks from the actual jail to the gate, and manually unlocks it. Then the CD slides the gate open, the cop takes the loser in, the CD slides the gate closed behind them. A second CD is required to be there to receive the subject. Then either that CD or another CD takes care of business. Then the original CD or another CD has to go let the Cop out.

Repeat this process as many times as needed daily. Your tax dollars at waste.

The area where the busted gate is, is known as the “Sally Port”.

It gets worse. Want to know why the gate has not been fixed?

#1 It is common knowledge that the Gate will not be fixed for ANOTHER 1-2 MONTHS.

#2 It is common knowledge that several INTERIOR DOORS in the jail are also malfunctioning!

#3 They are “Looking” for a new vendor to fix the broken doors!!! Where is the urgency!?

I guess Sniff and crew are too busy hunting down Chad Bianco supporters and abusing the worker’s comp system to pay attention to the dilapidated facilities and equipment!

If I was Cois Byrd, I’d be furious that my namesake facility was being managed like this!

If I was in local government in the area “served” by this Jail, I’d ask for Jerry Guitierrez’ resignation now.

  1. Playing devils advocate on this one, isn’t it possible that Guitierrez’s hands are tied on this one because Stan has chosen to risk public safety by searching for a new vendor instead of having the existing vendor fix the issue?

With all I’ve read about Stan, it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s issuing vendor agreements in exchange for campaign donations and votes.

Blogger’s Note: Either way is bad news.

  2. This is another example of Sniff and company’s mind set toward officer safety. They have always been reactive toward everything. See the escape from Indio, where the recreation area was fixed after an escape, not before.

I hope no one gets injured as a result of this lack of urgency. However, staff at Southwest aka Byrd, should file a complaint of unsafe working conditions.

Jerry, was always a prick toward staff when he taught at the academy. I guess he demonstrated all the qualities that Stanley looked for. Unfortunately, Jerry and the others wouldn’t stand up and do the right thing. Now they are coming into the harvest season. They will reap all of the hardship, anger, dismay, and all the other range of emotions that you feel when your career is taken from them. The only difference between people like done wrong at Perris and others, is these morons brought it on themselves.

Enjoy your rewards Sniffles and crew.

  3. Jerry is the assistant sheriff in command of the corrections division, so he has no excuse why the gate has been neglected all this time. Rumor has it the gate has no motor, which is why the staff needs to physically open and close the gate when someone is brought into the jail. Jerry has to take the hit on this one, but he won’t, he will just blame others like the rest of the second floor numbnuts do to avoid responsibility. I just wonder if Jerry’s peers on the City of Rialto Planning Commission know of his incompetence, neglect of duty issues, and overall failure to lead by example. And Jerry claimed to be involved in gang related investigations when he ran for the Rialto Planning Commission, But he’s not a gun slinger, can’t arrest criminals, and can’t file a gang enhancement like real cops do. You of all people should have known Jerry that in becoming a public official, your “Bio” is now open for public scrutiny, in addition to your behavior in your private life that brings your credibility and integrity into question.
