That time when Deputy Stan Sniff Ran for Sheriff Against Ben Clark

1982.

This is from the Desert Sun in March 13th of 1982.

The next time Sniff whines about Chad Bianco being a Lieutenant, Dave Brown, Chad himself and others should remind the “Sheriff” about this fun fact.

It looks like Sniff’s idea to recruit Miguelito was borne out of personal experience. Miguelito was not even born when Sniff pulled his first run for office, but Miguelito should feel as used as a political prop as anyone else I have written about.

Note that Indio Station is now the Thermal Station and Cochella no longer has its’ own police force. A connection to Sniff’s police brutality caper in 1977 suggests either he lateraled to the RSO or was absorbed in to RSO when Cochella disbanded its’ police department. Sniff’s father is/was a Date Farmer out in that area for many years. Googling Sniff Farms finds you some nostalgic photos as well.

Going back in time can sometimes be revealing. It certainly shows that Sniff had a life goal of being a Sheriff. This certainly explains his bizarre characters on his campaign stuff, his empire building activities and his megalomania.

Fun Fact, Ben Clark (the Incumbent that Sniff ran against) is the namesake of one of the Jails in Riverside County.

  1. Rod, it was Sheriff Byrd, and Sheriff Smith who have jails named after them. The training center is named after Sheriff Clark. I don’t want anyone saying you don’t check facts. Lol

Blogger’s Note: Given how they Nitpick, ‘preciate the knowledge.

  2. Also take notice how the Date Farm overworked many of its employees without properly paying them their time 1/2 and no lunch breaks.

  3. Here we have Stan Sniff running for Sheriff years ago, and he was still promoted under Ben Clark’s command. Yet when Chan Bianco runs for Sheriff, Stan Sniff and his band of cutthroats do all they can to threaten and intimidate those under their command, and persecute Chan Bianco to stay in power. It’s always good human nature to give your fellow man the benefit of the doubt, but in light of this new information, Stan has loss all benefit of the doubt that he deserves to continue commanding the Sheriff’s Department based upon his immoral behavior. Let’s face it, would Ben Clark have put up with “Peckerhead” Wood and his tattoos, would Cois Byrd have put up with Kevin Vest’s nonsense, I believe not. It’s time for a change in leadership. Maybe it would have been better for the Department as a whole if the L.A.P.D. Lieutenant that applied for appointment of Sheriff would have been selected by the B.O.S. instead of Stan Sniff.

  4. Today is a good day!!!
