Your Intrepid Blogger had suggested that Stan Sniff use employees like Chad Bianco who are basically doing nothing but being kept in the cooler by Leonard Purvis to handle the CCW Backlog. We’d roundly criticized Sniff for having donors like Mohammad Ali Mazarei with CCW Permits, but ex-military officers that were sitting local government members were getting denied after extended waits. (This is just one example of the absurdity)
We’ve chronicled that donors were getting fast tracked for CCW Permits – and cited several examples.
Melendez cited in the hearing that Sacramento County (1.1 Million People) approved 9,600 CCW Permits last year.
The goal was to take the arbitrary nature out of CCW permits. Riverside County, with a Population over Double that of Sacramento County issued just 2,400.
Now, Stan Sniff has blinked. In a long screed blaming the Riverside Supervisors again (aka using a straw man to try and extricate himself from his own anti-gun bias) he says that there is miraculously money for two months to process some of the backlog of CCW applictions. You can read his screed here and here and here. Warning, it is full of whining and you’d better read it close as it is not what it seems.
Not present in his screed is an admission of the fact that he can decline CCW permits for any reason at any time. Sniff prefers to side with the ACLU on CCW permit issuance.
Even his solution shows his irresponsibility – using retired TAP Program Employees, (Hand Picked by Sniff so he can control them) he is paying $60 a hour (at least) for results processing CCW Applications driven by people he controls.
It is clear that Sniff’s handlers were able to wait patiently for Sniff’s tirades to stop long enough to tell him he had to do something to change the narrative that he uses CCW Permits to solicit support or to reward support. They had to placate the gun groups and try to change the narrative. They did not. Sniff will not come close to boosting the pathetic number of CCW Permits active in Riverside County in a 9 week face-saving, election year move. (And he knows this)

We have heard that Palm Desert Station has gotten some new equipment, maybe even a few car repairs since the photos and eyewitness reports about Jason Huskey’s disaster (Huskey is the Captain there) were posted on this blog.
We have heard that after posting about Thermal not having enough chargers for their body cameras that they did indeed end up getting more chargers. No word on the rusted out cars though and the rest of the sub par equipment.

I love how the current or former department employees think the department exists to accomadate their best interests. This job is one of service and sacrifice. Most of the posts I see from bitter employees is “what have you done for me lately?” You are public servants. You get paid an excellent wage and have excellent benefits and retirement benefits and the educational requirement is a high school diploma (But Sniff is obsessed with degrees that many get while on the clock) Yet you complain about equipment, chairs, water, and other conditions as if you are the customer. I think it is a good thing you have crappy equipment to work with. The customers are the citizens of this county who pay outrageous contract costs so that Sniff and his crew on Floor #2 can saddle you with crap. RSA members have had a 54% raise over the past 9 years and the Sheriff resents it and is taking it out on all of you. If the department can’t afford to accommodate your every whim, maybe it’s because you are overpaid. Remember, The job is voluntary, you can leave whenever you want. 9% pay raise to pay my 9% cal pers is a wash. Top step deps got 2.5% step 13 and 2.5% step 14. So if you were top step, since 2010, you’ve had a 5% raise. 5% while medical benefits and RSA dues have gone up. Since the pay cuts of 2010, my checks are 100 bucks more. 200 a month raise over the past 9 years. Not even what a cost of living increase is.
New hires paying 10.5% into calpers and have 2.7@57. Anyone worth a shit is leaving.

When you give us 10% back, that’s not a fucking pay raise. Sniff says he is increasing the amounts cities need to pay for these p at raises. Fact is 9% cal pers for 9% pay raise is a wash, yet we are charging the cities that additionsl percentage. I’m just a tenured dep and I can see through that BS
Yes we receive a good retirement but there are no other benefits. Everyone is under the assumption we get medical, we don’t. You give your heart and soul to this career and leave it broke down physically and mentally without even a thank you for your service from the sheriff. Maybe if Sniff didn’t spend almost every Friday at the range occupying a firing bay for 8 hours, where his own working class deputies can’t even get on to shoot. The might have been a little oversight on the problems within his department. So 52 weeks times 8 hours equals off the top of my head 416 hours the county is owed in salary refund. Yes a quarter of a year at the range when was the last time you placed yourself in harms way to need to practice like that. The other 3/4 of the year was spent kissing babies. It’s no wonder most of the second floor admin are POS. Get some round up and spray it on the weeds and get rid of them.
