God Bless Dave Cox. A good man and someone who let it fly on the floor of the legislature with some of the most memorable quotes ever.

With his passing – there has been a flurry of rumors as to who is going to run to replace him.

1. Roger Niello – the choice of the deceased Senator. Cox wrote Niello a $7800 check literally the day he died. Niello followed Cox up the ladder from Supervisor to Assembly and you’d assume that Cox had the 1st Senate district drawn for himself and also for his protege’ Niello. Rumor also has it that Doug Ose – who goes back 20+ years with Roger Niello is going to throw his considerable weight behind Niello.

Niello’s Achilles heel? He voted for the Feb 2009 budget with the largest tax increase in state history.

2. Ted Gaines – like Niello had a State Senate Campaign account open, with $500K in it already. Gaines is a Conservative who made the right endorsements from a Conservative perspective.

Gaines’ Achilles heel? There is a perception in insider circles that Gaines is distant and controlled by his staff. This perception started when Gaines made an abortive run for Congress in late 2007 after only having been in the Assembly for about 6-8 months.

Ted Gaines has also never run a competitive race. However, Doug LaMalfa had never run a competitive race and he smoked Rick Keene who outspent him… Gaines has the same political consultant that LaMalfa does.

3. Dan Logue – the proponent of Prop 23 whose Assembly District overlaps the 1st Senate district to the north of Ted Gaines Assembly District.

Dan Logue is the absolute WildCard. The notariety that he is getting and will be getting from going head-on against Arnold and the global warming cult should boost him substantially.

Dan Logue carries none of the baggage that either Ted Gaines or Roger Niello bring to the table. Dan Logue can also raise money – but can he raise enough to compete with the Niello establishment and the $500K head start of Ted Gaines?

Other names are being rumored – only because this is a special election with a different dynamic.

Right now – if I were Ted Gaines and Roger Niello, I would be on the phone trying to convince Dan Logue not to run.

As for this blogger – the headache of the 2010 cycle continues.

Blogger’s Note – Dave Cox was a statesman and a great man. He condolences to his family and staff in this difficult time –

please do not construe this blog post as anything other than an analysis of the political intrigue and a recitation of several insider conversations that Senator Cox’ untimely passing has brought on.

CA-SEN Update: Coverage from Politico and RCP says Toss-Up

I am sure this will make the Kool-Aid left toss their cookies.

Real Clear Politics – recognized by both sides as being pretty accurate with their race ratings… has moved Lt. Col Boxer to the Toss Up Column.

Politico’s article said that Carly has Boxer on the ropes.

I predict that Boxer is going to have to start burning her money very soon…

What exactly did Politico’s article have to say?

Boxer campaign manager Rose Kapolczynski pointed to the Field result in a fundraising appeal over the weekend, calling the race a virtual tie – “Dead heat. Tossup. Neck and neck.

“If anyone was taking our victory for granted — well, this news should be a wake-up call. We don’t have a vote or a moment to spare,” Kapolcynski wrote. “I’m going to tell it to you straight: we’re under 50 percent of the vote and our opponent is at our heels.”

(Blogger’s note – Translation, we are going to have to shred Carly if we are going to have a chance.)

Fiorina has consistently placed within a few points of Boxer since winning the Republican Senate nomination by 34 points on June 8. The day after the primary, a Rasmussen poll showed Fiorina down five. Later that month, an Ipsos survey for Reuters placed her four points back.

That makes Boxer’s campaign among the most competitive races that’s consistently polled – a category that also includes tossup contests in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Let’s see – Goes from Down 5 to up two in 6 weeks? By election day, Boxer will be down 35. Works for me.

CA-SEN Update: Time for Boxer to start spending her bailout money?

If you’re a political junkie then you heard today about Survey USA – the automated polling outfit that has the race at 47 Carly – 45 Lt Col Boxer.

A previous Poll – the Field Poll had the race at Boxer +3 last week.

This is why it sucks to be Barbara Boxer.

Five Presidential Bailout missions have Boxer with $17million in the bank. Democrats can take some comfort in that – until:

Angry Voters who vote to screw incumbents regardless of merit are on the rampage in this election cycle. Boxer is the incumbent.

More in a bit.

Barbara Boxer and Joe Biden – they hate small businesses.

Sound extreme? Keep reading and then see how easy it is to draw that conclusion.

Boxer Has A Lifetime Rating Of 30 Percent From The U.S. Chamber Of Commerce. (U.S. Chamber Of Commerce Website, www.uschamber.com, Accessed 7/6/10)

Biden Has a Lifetime Rating of 36 Percent From The U.S. Chamber Of Commerce. (U.S. Chamber Of Commerce Website, www.uschamber.com, Accessed 7/6/10)

Now – it takes effort to get below 50% on the US Chamber of Commerce’s rating system as they try to kiss up to everyone.

Boxer And Biden Supported Increased Regulations On Businesses. (S.J.Res. 6, CQ Vote #15: Passed 56-44: R 50-0; D 6-44, 3/6/01, Biden And Boxer Voted Nay)

Boxer And Biden Supported Allowing Union Organizers To Bypass Secret-Ballot Elections. (H.R. 800, CQ Vote #227: Rejected 51-48: R 1-48; D 48-0; I 2-0, 6/26/07, Biden And Boxer Voted Yea)

Joe Biden told the following whopper while warming up to rally support of Incumbent Federal Politician Barbara Boxer:

Biden In June 2010: “The Fact Is The Recovery Act Is Working.” “Vice President Joe Biden said Thursday that the US economic recovery is on track and that the huge stimulus measure enacted last year ‘is working’ despite criticism of the plan. ‘The fact is the Recovery Act is working,’ Biden told a news conference as the administration kicked off a six-week series of events called ‘Recovery Summer,’ to highlight the numerous infrastructure programs funded by the 787-billion-dollar plan.”(“Biden Says Stimulus Working, US Economy On Track,” Agence France Presse, 6/17/10)

Recovery summer – let’s see Barbara Boxer and Joe Biden jump on the backs of small business owners and starts strangling them while saying out loud “We have your best interest at heart!”

… And someone who wants a tax cut is a smartass.

… And a General who calls Barbara Boxer Ma’am gets shredded in a Senate hearing.

I wish Joe Biden would spend some of his personal fortune to buy a place out here so he could campaign full-time for these losers.

According To The Associated Press Index Of Economic Stress, 13 Of The 20 Most Stressed U.S. Counties Are In California. “Each month, the Associated Press generates a county-by-county index of economic stress for the entire nation and 13 of the 20 most stressed U.S. counties are in California, topped by poverty-wracked Imperial County in the state’s southeastern corner.” (Dan Walters, “California Counties Top Economic Stress List,” Sacramento Bee’s “Capitol Alert” Blog, blogs.sacbee.com, 7/7/10)

Thanks Senator Barbara Boxer and Vice-President and former Senator Joe Biden!

If this is economic stimulus, then the govenment issued cyanide that is coming to expensive-to-treat-patients will be health care, right?

Is that an exaggeration?

Consider the record of Joe Biden and Barbara Boxer:

Biden And Boxer Voted For The 1993 Clinton Budget Plan, Which Raised Taxes By $241 Billion. (H.R. 2264, CQ Vote #190: Passed 49-49: R 0-43; D 49-6, With Vice President Gore Casting A “Yea” Vote,  6/25/93, Biden and Boxer Voted Yea; H.R. 2264, CQ Vote #247: Adopted 50-50: R 0-44; D 50-6, With Vice President Al Gore Casting A “Yea” Vote, 8/6/93, Biden and Boxer Voted Yea)

Before Health Care “Reform” – this was the largest tax increase in US History.

In 1999, Biden And Boxer Voted Against Legislation That Included $792 Billion In Tax Relief Over 10 Years.
(S. 1429, CQ Vote #247: Passed 57-43:  R 52-2; D 4-41; I 1-0, 7/30/99, Biden and Boxer Voted Nay)

Biden And Boxer Voted Against The 2001 And 2003 Tax Cuts. (H.R. 1836, CQ Vote #165: Passed 62-38: R 50-0; D 12-38, 5/23/01, Biden and Boxer Voted Nay; H.R. 2, CQ Vote #196: Adopted 50-50: R 48-3; D 2-46; I 0-1, With Vice President Cheney Casting A “Yea” Vote To Break The Tie, 5/23/03, Biden and Boxer Voted Nay; H.R. 2, CQ Vote #179: Passed 51-49: R 48-3; D 3-45; I 0-1, 5/15/03, Biden and Boxer Voted Nay)

Now those tax cuts are going to sunset and will contribute to the double dip recession that is going to come. Every dollar that taxes go up – sucks three out of the economy. (Workers not hired, investments not made and reduced sales/output)

The Stimulus Worked, right? Even if you count Census jobs – we have still had millions of jobs erased from the economy.

Economic stimulus can’t work if people are over-taxed. and over-regulated.. to be continued.
