The Motor school crash was a horrible tragedy and many of us are shocked and upset about our brother getting injured. But I have to agree with my other colleagues that we were more shocked to see Kyleen Coogan posting it all over social media before our own department members had been informed. Big Mistake by Sniff. We ALL believe Coogan called Sniff before posting it, because she has a direct line to him. By the way Sheriff, we all despise the fact that you allow Coogan to have more communications with you than your own department members. But I’m sure you don’t give a damn about what we think, you never have.

A video, only discovered recently (with about 80 views the first time I saw it) features the Helicopter (which is frightfully expensive to operate), a Pilot, “Eggplant”, Sniff, two K-9 deputies, someone behind the camera and a “Stunt Deputy” who went down the rope out of the helicopter.
Were the 5 employees on the clock? How much were they paid? How much fuel did the Helicopter Use? How much did it cost to shoot and edit the video?
This seems to matter as it is widely rumored that similar to CCW Permits, Stan Sniff loves to hand out helicopter rides to his donors / buddies.
Nevertheless, how much did this video cost all in? Just add this to the file…
#3 and #4: So when I was approached several months ago by someone that had knowledge that Sniff used the Helicopter service as a reward for donors, (and has done so for years) I was interested and the info seemed credible. The source never followed up over fear of retaliation despite anonymity. Then months later, I received an unsolicited report of an incidence out in a desert station where a couple donors showed up for their helicopter ride.
All four items show a pattern of misuse of the air units.
When you add that the sheriff was not billing the contract cities for air support (aka the Helicopters), we have the theater of the absurd covered coming and going.
Then, we were recently told that Lt Shields pushed through the Motorcycle qualification of a motorcycle officer who was not ready and was not stable enough on his motorcycle. The young man has had and is having major surgeries on several broken vertebrae and may not walk again. Yes, he was in a serious accident on his motorcycle. The injured deputy was #4 out of 4 in his training class and the #1 finisher was not offered motorcycle school. The other deputy that was selected for motor school failed out of motor school the day before the tragic accident.
The focus here is the command decision to expose someone who was clearly unstable on a motorcycle and not qualified fir physical risk while more qualified people were denied access to motor school. This is a consistent pattern where team assignments are done on the old corrupt spoils system versus merit. In this case, a young man is currently paralyzed (with a small chance of overcoming the injury). Not only should Lt Shields get terminated, but his Chain of Command, Captain Jason Huskey, Chief Christopher Brandon Ford, Assistant Sheriff Joseph Cleary and Sheriff Stan Sniff should all fry over this.
I have a massive scar on my left arm from an accident when I was 19. Although the injury was from rolling my father’s pickup after I was hit by migrant farm workers in Madera County, I have not touched a motorcycle since (as the damage I did to myself in a car crash was enough to cause me to stick to 4 wheels). At least two high school buddies are deceased from motorcycle accidents. I know of which I speak with regard to this subject.
I am also aware that a member of the Second Floor – likely Chief Deputy Brandon Ford was attempting to politicize the injury to create another McMillan type situation to be exploited for political gain by the Sheriff. Ford is alleged to have attempted to engage the injured deputies’ family in some sort of discussion, etc. You will note that I have not and will not mention the fallen by name, the only reason I do with McMillan is due to the media coverage and the Sheriff’s craven political posturing at his expense.
The kid was a fine deputy and several of his colleagues are quite upset over the accident.

We all feel traumatized by our Palm Desert brother’s motorcycle accident and severe injuries. We will all have him in our thoughts and prayers for the best possible outcome and healing from this tragic incident. The Second Floor protects their favorites and throws everyone else to the four winds, and if they get promoted, so be it. They only care about what’s in it for theselves and their friends. They don’t care about promoting the staff members that actually know what they are doing. But for the second floor to auction off a helicopter ride for political donations seems to be unethical, and appears to be a violation of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971. And none of the executive staff on the second floor knew about this? Ya right, they should all go to jail, I am just surprised there has not been a grand jury inquiry by now. We are all waiting for the day the FBI shows up to the second floor and tells Stan and his den of iniquity conspirators,”Your assigned home pending further investigation.” Maybe Stan will get Ali to bail him out, the the rest of the second floor are on their own at that point
First of all best wishes for the Deputy. By all accounts he is a good guy. That said I hope Coogan stays far away from him and his family. Another ciivilian that gets preferential treatment by Sniff. People know exactly who she is- a direct line to Stan Sniff who uses her to pretend he cares about his people. Posing with pictures and touting his line doesn’t endear you to the deputies OR their spouses. Coogan start working for the Deputiesand their spouses and not your pal Sniff. Until you do that few will trust you.
The deputy is a stand up guy! The fact seasoned motor officers told Lt. Shields that this deputy did not test well and was not currently ready and Lt. Shields ignored their opinion is exactly what’s wrong with Rso. Now his career over because of being pushed into a position he needed more time to prepare for. Lt. Shields should submit his resignation immediately because this is on you and you only. But what will RSO do? They will carry on and label this as a tragic accident that couldn’t be prevented. I am not defending the decision Lt. Shields made, but what does occur is the fact that the village idiots on the second floor are the one’s that make the decisions. And Lt. Shields may only be doing what he was told to do. Do you really believe that it was his idea to pass someone that did not meet standards, knowing there was a liability issue at hand? There are times where a manager may say “I don’t want this person, or that person,” but are ordered to take them, less they face an allegation of willful insubordination, which is a termination offense. And do you think that a lot of these positions are really an open invitation for the assignment, or does the executive staff already have someone picked for the job? Years ago a Deputy who was a Navy Seal tried out for HDT, and he was not selected, but a brand new Deputy with no experience was selected for HDT. So was the Deputy with a vast amount of real world experience not up to the challenge, or did the second floor tell the Lt. making the selection, “We like the Deputy with no experience on the team.” And remember, when memo’s, resumes and transfer requests are submitted, they all go to the second floor for approval. So tell me again how moral, ethical and principled the selections really are. How many times have you seen someone go to a special assignment and say to yourself,”I did not know they were looking for people for that position?”

The deputy should be allowed to continue working with modifications like Capt. Webb. His family should sue the shit out of these idiots. Sue the county for negligence. Then sue his command staff from sergeant through sheriff Sniff in civil court. That way the money comes out of their pockets.

The overriding issue here is that he was not stable on his bike yet was cleared and now is seriously injured. That is a command decision and no amount of expletive laden tirades changes that. I recently spoke with a out of county agency who took Attended his traffic class at BCTC. They said he was one of the worst instructor they ever had in their career.

4. If you read the previous comments everyone was talking about the failed leadership. Miller came on here and made his comments to multiple people. Attacking them by name, and challenging them to come out from behind the keyboard.
5. You said Miller was standing up for an injured brother. Well, you clearly don’t know how to comprehend what you read. Miller has a guilty conscience and came on here to defend Miller, and justify his decisions despite experienced people saying the deputy wasn’t ready. Go back and read all the other comments again.

If you worked for the department you’d know what those code names mean/stand for so public blog or not, he was talking to specific individuals and not “by name” but I’m sure he’d be able to do so without much trouble.
