As of now:

John Allard – the front-runner and Roseville City Councilmember has declared his candidacy.

Beth Gaines – Wife of State Senator Ted Gaines is in hot pursuit, but has not formally announced yet.

Michael Babich – the Mad Scientist of Auburn has told several close to him that he is running. Babich was most recently a primary opponent of Tom McClintock’s on the Republican side.

Jeff Randall – a Dry Creek Unified School District Trustee.

Cheryl Bly-Chester – previously set up a website for an Assembly run when it looked like Ted Gaines was going to take on then congressman John Doolittle. She is a current member of the Placer County Republican Central Committee.

Paul Hunt – from Loomis. Ran against Ted Gaines in the 2006 Assembly Primary. Could get Tea Party support.

… and there is supposed to be a Democrat in here somewhere…

P.S. I had previously written that Lincoln Councilmember Spencer Short was a candidate for AD-04. Apparently, my sources had not spoken directly to Spencer who debunked any such rumors of running for supervisor, dog catcher, etc or Assembly.

P.P.S. I had previously written that Keith Nesbitt had ruled out a run. The Moderate Republican from Auburn was quoted in local media stories saying he was still considering a run.
