It’s funny stuff. The time-honored tradition of “Loaning” yourself money so you can look like you raised more than you have.
Your intrepid Blogger obtained a copy of a press release highlighting Mark Mezzano’s money haul.
Redding, CA — Redding Vice Mayor Mark Mezzano has emerged as the leading fundraiser in the race for Assembly District 1, based on semi-annual campaign finance reports released by the Secretary of State yesterday.
Mezzano has raised $40,500.00 since announcing his campaign, outpacing his opponents Heather Hadwick, who raised $31,292.00, Melissa Hunt, who raised $19,197.92, and Tenessa Audette who raised $10,759.00.
In response to the news, Mark stated, “I am so grateful for the support I have received from members of the community who know me, trust me, and feel I will be an exceptional State Assemblyman. I look forward to continuing to grow our team and reach more North State residents over the course of this campaign.”
If Exceptional means starting your campaign out with decades-old tricks to deceive the public, Mezzano has launched himself correctly!
Mezzano (and his wife) are on his report for $18,500 in loans! This means his ACTUAL haul is $22,000 – about 30% less than Heather Hadwick, who lent herself $1.98 to buy a Sinckers bar while on the road to parts of the district that Mezzano has not heard of. (Ok there is a $99 loan on there, but you get the point)
There is accuracy to the statement about the trust and support when reflected that he is his most prominent donor. I mean lender.
So here is the $18,500 question, is this a show loan to create a facade of support? Or will the retired cop part with the money??? Inquiring bloggers want to know.
I am sure Mezzano is a decent dude as he is retired law enforcement and stuff… but come on man.
P.S. Mezzano, Hunt and Audette are all from Shasta County. Heather Hadwick is not, advantage Heather.

Mark Mezzano is a great guy. We’ll see if gets traction around the district.
Just to add perspective to the fundraising, the RN who double-maxed? His daughter. So maybe knock another $11,000 off.
