I’ve known David Nelson a long time, 2007-2008, some 19 years ago I first met him. I actually did business with him, using his dry cleaning delivery service for a while until the business was no more. Apparently, others did as well and the abrupt end meant more than a few people had to wait a while before getting their garments. That never happened to me. What I did see was his run for Rocklin City Council, which was a clown show.

Now that’s an interesting cast of characters. George Magnuson was always noted for having a screw loose. He always finished 3rd. David Nelson amongst other things bizarre in 2008 delivered a speech at a candidate forum in Rocklin called “I have a Rocklin”. That should have been everyone’s first clue of how little if any self-awareness Nelson actually has. At least Nelson got more votes than “Crazy Ed”.

Straight Up. The 2026 Lie of the year. Finding pictures of Nelson and alcohol is pretty easy. Finding anything straight, like communication, thinking, presentation, stability, self discipline, or otherwise with David Nelson is much less easy these days.

Which leads me to the overriding narrative of the 2026 Election. Based on my firsthand knowledge of him and further research, David Nelson is a fraud and anyone that has worked with him or knows him in Placer County – with few exceptions can’t stand him. It’s universal across party lines and across any demographic line you want to draw. Straight Up.

The Placer GOP Central Committee did a lot of good work this election cycle, but they blew chunks on this one. My guess is they saw this guy as the only Republican running and just auto-endorsed.

It took me about 5 minutes of research to find one of Nelson’s political campaign consultants: Sunrise Strategies. There’s quite a list of activist liberal democrats in their stable. My favorite client on their list is  “Latinx Young Democrats of Sacramento County”. Latinos hate the term Latinx.

Nice pick David. Kinda goes with the Firefighter’s Union, doesn’t it? Kinda tells the straight-up truth about Mr. Nelson.

Like I said, 5 minutes of research. That same 5 minutes also yielded this gem from Nelson’s own website: Author of Assembly Bill 2019 (Petrie-Norris), Nelson neglected to mention that Petrie-Norris is a democrat who unseated a Republican (Young Kim) in a then-purple assembly district.

As your intrepid blogger has been pulling back the covers on the Straight-Up fraud that is David Nelson, I’ve learned that it is common knowledge that David Nelson has promised the Roseville Firefighter’s Union Binding Arbitration and a big, fat pay raise if elected. Effectively, Binding Arbitration will let a Gavin Newsom appointed arbitrator dictate Union contract terms to the City of Roseville. These promises or the proceedings of the private meeting(s) are impossible to prove as only the people in the conversation where the union threw all in behind Nelson know for sure.

In San Jose’ their council beat back the Firefighter’s union, enforcing a paltry 10% cut in pensions, as part of a package that saved the City of San Jose from bankruptcy. The Fire Union has hated Pete Constant (then on their City Council) for it ever since. The endorsement of any fire union in California these days comes with a price and Pete Constant, who led a successful ballot measure to enforce fiscal discipline in San Jose has been savaged by them ever since. Their endorsement of an alleged conservative Republican reeks of straight up fraud.

If Nelson indeed promised things like this to the union in exchange for an endorsement and campaign cash, that’s a felony. My guess is the real story is a little less severe – but given that Nelson’s entire campaign is centered around alcohol and the firefighters, the rumors appear straight up credible.

Nelson’s campaign endorsements and campaign finance reports feature donations from the swamp. I see several Sacramento Based Consultants and a smattering of political insiders from all around the state on his reports. While it is good to know people, I thought the Placer GOP was about draining the swamp. David Nelson is swimming in it.

Another piece to the Nelson puzzle is this, when asked a direct, easy to answer question about Flock Cameras, he could not answer:

And this is a snippet of the nightmare Nelson has been to work with. He “served” on both the Transportation Commission and the Community Standards and Visioning Commission about a decade ago. The experience for others in and around both of those was so negative that dozens of people still cite specific examples of insane behavior and drama-out-of-nothing that Nelson incited on both of those boards. Perhaps this is why so many people that are long time residents of Roseville and business leaders are passionate in their opposition to Nelson.

But – if you were to ask David, he believes that Roseville City Council is his first step to getting elected to Assembly (yep, challenging Joe Patterson) and perhaps emperor / governor / president or whatever megalomaniac fantasy is percolating in his head… and the Roseville Fire Union “bought” this guy too. What a marriage that is!, straight up. The Fire Union must be pretty desperate to get binding arbitration.

And Mr. Nelson still does not own a house. If Nelson loses his race for council, it would not surprise me to see him abruptly up and move somewhere else were he can repeat his insane pattern.

It’s time to reject David Nelson, Straight Up.
