AD01 Update / Shasta GOP Update: So You Want to Run For Legislature, Maybe Doing Some Research About the Way Things Work First?

Thank you Darin Hale for Posting that Heather Hadwick is the 9th Most Likely Member of the whole damn California State Legislature to Vote No!

Crazy Season is here. To add some color – Carl DeMaio’s Reform California, (that Darin (Sieg) Hale is fond of quoting), has an endorsement of his opponent Heather Hadwick displayed in its’ voter guide. Perhaps Hale should call Carl DeMaio and ask why his organization has Hadwick as one of only 4 in the whole California legislature with an A+ Score!

Now for some remedial education for Darin (Sieg) Hale:

Carl DeMaio who he likes to quote in his attacks about political purity is openly gay. Thusly, DeMaio is not in line with the “traditional values” Hale likes to rail about. Always check the credentials of who you use as a source. DeMaio is no less legit or credible but knowing the bio makes it less embarrassing when your metric is a purity test.

There are 120 Members of the California State Legislature.

When you use Cal-Matters, their ratings are top-down, not bottom up. Therefore, more Yes Votes Yields a higher ranking. (as in voting yes 100% of the time would be #1)

Aka – learn your sources.

So, in the course of making a purity test, Hale quoted Cal-Matters pointing out that Hadwick ranks 112 out of 120 for voting No.

Now in this second screenshot, Hale shows his further ignorance of how the legislature works. You will see known conservatives like Tom Lackey, Allie Macedo, Tri Ta and David Tangipa listed as no vote recorded on this bill. According to Hale they are all bad because they “ran away from voting” on the bill or something similar.

Under State Law, you need 41 votes in the Assembly to pass a bill, not 50%+1 of those voting. This means then that No Vote Recorded is the same as voting no, that is why scorecards count NVR as a No Vote from most all organizations.

A check of actual attendance records (used for Per-Diem payments) shows that Hadwick has an absentee rate lower than most in the legislature when it is in session. This means then that Hadwick is most likely in committee meetings (she sits on several) when there are floor sessions going simultaneously, this happens to be the most common cause of a NVR for any member of the legislature. Anyone that did any real research on the job or how it works would learn that quickly, Not Mr. Hale.

Hale and Hadwick were at a candidate forum the other night. Hale posted edited clips of it – a normal tactic for an under-funded challenger candidate reliant on drama – but what was fascinating is that Hale could not answer basic questions about the function of the legislature.

One such question was if Hale knew what committees there were in the legislature. He could not answer the question. (Hint: things like Veterans Affairs, Natural Resources, Budget, would be correct answers) Legislative committees are were the heavy lifting to create legislation occur. Regardless of the previous, Mr. Hale’s inability to answer a simple question about this is disqualifying by itself.

Which brings me to the Shasta GOP update:

Similar to other Central Committees I have seen, there is an element of the Shasta GOP that would read what I wrote previously in this blog about Darin Hale and call me a RINO. They do not care if a candidate has any money, real support, competence or a plan – just someone who plays to their inner need to get even with whatever bothers them at that time. Further, you can see that outside groups rate Heather Hadwick as a stone-cold conservative as well. Facts just don’t matter.

I try to avoid writing about Central Committee drama except in specific circumstances as it is constant. In the 29 years of politics, the insanity is a constant, the party structure is a magnet for it. Some escape it. Most get consumed by it and disappear within a short time from it and still others become institutional crazy…

… it is one such institutional crazy member of the Shasta GOP that is organizing an effort to oust members of that committee. The Drama has been a constant in Shasta for 20 years, and shows no sign of abating. Darin Hale is as much a product of that as he is an instigator.

Hale is going to get demolished at the ballot box in June – then watch the predictable reactions of these folks. In the last few years, Shasta County has already lost one registrar of voters who could not handle the stress of the constant attacks from these people. Then there is the City Of Anderson where Hale is currently in office. Oh Mama.
