Remember Chad Mayes? He like Faulconer’s buddy Brian Maeinschein bolted the GOP as sitting members of the Assembly. It seems a lot of Faulconer’s buddies are getting froggy. This is not exactly leadership when colleagues within your orbit bolt the party you seek to carry the flag for.
Back when Mayes was still GOP – Kevin Faulconer decided to participate in the Chad Mayes Lecture Circuit. Here is a video of faulconer lecturing the GOP. He is flanked by a bunch of self-righteous fellow Trump-Haters.

Apparently Faulconer’s message was so effective that Mark Kersey had a moment of honest reflection and left the GOP with similar values to Mayor Faulconer.
That is soon-to-be-former Mayor Faulconer.
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer slammed Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in a statement released by his campaign manager.
“I am not endorsing Mr. Trump. I reject his divisive rhetoric, including that toward women and Latinos. We need to be building bridges and bringing people together. That’s how we do things in San Diego. Mr. Trump has not earned my vote.”
State Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, a Democrat who represents some of those same under-served South Bay neighborhoods, was not convinced by his efforts.
“Woo-hoo,” Gonzalez said. “He’s not a racist and knows he can’t embrace a racist. That’s politically expedient for a California Republican. But unless he is actively working against Trump or trying to change his party or leaving his party, I’m not impressed.”
I’d imagine that Gonzalez is now impressed as Faulconer has a 4 year track record of attacking the president, running others out of the GOP, participating in #NEWWAYCA, lecturing Conservatives and generally working to shred the CAGOP Platform. I suppose under Gonzalez AB5 law, that Faulconer would need to be put on Payroll for the California Democrat Party as doing such work violates the independent contractor law.

Kevin Faulconer has benefited a lot from Party activists coming from all parts of the state to help his campaign. And like other arrogant moderate ingrates whose egos are swelled with the thoughts of being the savior of the CAGOP, he has abandoned most of them or made a mockery of their values while in office.
Just ask Scott Sherman. Kevin Faulconer is alleged by several insiders to have abandoned Scott Sherman after recruiting him to run for mayor to replace him. The Mayor’s race in San Diego is a Dem vs Dem runoff. Sherman finished 3rd in March.
As I did research on the San Diego City Council under Faulconer’s tenure – it appears to be a disaster. We will be sure to lay that out in detail.
Truth be told, Kevin Faulconer could not get elected mayor of San Diego were he running today.
Anyone serious about the GOP in California should look at what the political landscape has done around Faulconer. If he was so influential were are the results? Why did he mess over Scott Sherman? Where are his recruits for other offices? Has he done anything for the GOP other than get countless youngsters to drive to San Diego from all over the state to help him and not otherwise?
It seems like with Kevin Faulconer, we have a Neel Kashkari without the intellect and education. But hey, LA Times columnist George Skelton thinks he is a righteous dude…
