SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Today, Senate Minority Leader Brian W. Jones (R-Santee) announced the Senate Republican Caucus has redoubled its efforts to take back the Central Valley in the 2026 election cycle.
“We have generational talent in this year’s Central Valley candidates,” said Jones. “From Marie Alvarado-Gil, to Darin DuPont and Guillermo Gonzalez, the Central Valley is chock-full of conservative leaders ready to answer the call. Voters are eager for a change from the Sacramento swamp’s status-quo and we’re lucky to have that change embodied in our young, bold, homegrown Central Valley candidates.”
Chief among the Republican Leader’s priorities is the re-election of Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil to represent the Fourth Senate District. Jones, and other members of the Senate Republican Caucus have recently committed to fundraise, volunteer their time, and otherwise throw the full force and weight of their caucus’ political apparatus behind Alvarado-Gil, who Jones called “the singular viable candidate” in the June primary and the only one positioned to emerge victorious in November’s general election.
“There’s one clear choice for Senate District Four, and then there’s a field of challengers, and their beleaguered supporters that collectively amount to little more than white noise,” said Jones. “Nepotism doesn’t play in today’s political climate and the voters aren’t looking for liberal newcomers that married into the Central Valley political scene, they want one of their own who knows the district, and they want results. Senator Alvarado-Gil is a bold and proven leader. She’s from the district, she’s a shrewd and effective legislator and has become an absolute star in the State Senate already.”
Leader Jones will be in the Fourth Senate District on Saturday, March 28, for a campaign kickoff event in Modesto, followed by a door-to-door community engagement walk, and an evening event in El Dorado County. The Minority Leader and Senator Alvarado-Gil are welcoming volunteers to join them as they walk door-to-door in the neighborhoods of Turlock and Modesto that day, interacting with the people and hearing from the community about the issues they face everyday. The visit to Senate District Four will be the second campaign trip to the Central Valley this month for Leader Jones who is just off the heels of a swing through Merced, Fresno, Madera and Bakersfield in support of Senate District 14 candidate, Merced City Councilman Darin DuPont, Senate District 12 candidate, Fresno County Board Supervisor Nathan Magsig, and Senate District 16 candidate, Bakersfield small businessman Guillermo Gonzalez — a group that, along with Alvarado-Gil, Jones has called a “once-in-a-lifetime crop of quality candidates.”
Under Jones’ leadership, the Senate Republican Caucus has grown in number each year, ousting, for the first time in decades, a sitting Democrat Senator while growing the caucus’ membership to its highest number in years.
“We plan to pick up, at minimum, two seats in November and we’re committed to putting in the work to do that,” said Jones. “That means clearing the field of perennial also-rans and substance-less primary challengers in the 40th and 4th Senate Districts, and it means ousting out-of-touch Democrats who put their Sacramento masters ahead of the people in their districts in places like Fresno and Merced. We’re all-in to elect candidates to help us fix California and we’re seeing phenomenal responses from the people of the Valley already.”
Leader Jones and Senator Alvarado-Gil will be at Culture Coffee Bar in Modesto at 10 a.m. on March 28 for a campaign kickoff and meet-and-greet event. They’ll then walk door-to-door in the community to discuss issues with voters and meet them face-to-face before heading to El Dorado County for an evening event that same day. Further details will be distributed later this week and volunteer information, including opportunities to walk with Leader Jones and Senator Alvarado-Gil, can be found HERE.
