So Kevin Kiley is Running for CA-06 after pulling papers for CA-05 and CA-06. Then Mike Johnson endorsed McClintock for CA-05 while Kiley was reserving media time in CA-05. Confused Yet?

Perennial Marginal Also-Ran Candidate Chris Bish has talked about 3 different districts to run for including CA-03 against Robb Tucker and the anointed democrat. Her Website says CA-06. She may have reconsidered and stayed in CA-06 after Kevin Kiley decided he was the smartest dude in the room re-registering NPP for CA-06.

Update: NOPE, she is running for CA-03 putting her at odds with long time political allies in Nevada County, my head hurts. Her website still says CA-06, oh and she named the violin wielding Peter Kuo as her campaign finance chair… confirming she will be fat-ass broke as usual.

This is the latest installment of Republicans don’t know how to win and self-destruct at the moment of truth. With Congress at a 4-5 seat split in party affiliation, one “Republican” after another have had self aggrandizing meltdowns because they wanted attention. Now it is Kiley’s turn.

Having worked against him when he first ran for assembly, I am not surprised to see him bolt the GOP when he did not get his own way. He is much more articulate and better behaved than MTG who went psycho after Trump refused to endorse her for GA-Gov, but the rest of the pattern is pretty similar. Any of us that watched Kiley since his beginning knew he was ambitious and had a limited, if any ideological core. See also endorsing John Kasich and the list of Bay-Area liberals in his Assembly Campaign donor list (not to mention the $400K independent expenditure funded by the same people).

I recently spoke to some CAGOP types out in the bay who all knew Kevin Kiley when he was on the SFGOP, none of them are surprised either.

So, McClintock gets a free-ride in one of the few remaining “Safe” GOP seats.

Then there is the curious case of William “Bill Brough” for CA-47. While I quoted the commie rag Liberal OC, their synopsis is accurate and you can search posts on this blog as your intrepid blogger led the effort to oust him from the California Assembly:

• Multiple women (at least four initially, including Orange County Supervisor Lisa Bartlett) accused him of sexual harassment, unwanted touching, and inappropriate advances. A legislative investigation substantiated some claims of sexual misconduct, including inappropriate touching and implying offers of political favors in exchange for sexual activity. This led to the Assembly Speaker removing him from committee assignments and requiring harassment training.
• In late 2020, a former legislative aide filed a criminal complaint accusing him of rape in 2015 (related to an alleged assault in Sacramento). It’s unclear from public records if this led to charges or conviction, but it added to the serious allegations during his final months in office.
• Separately, the California Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) investigated his campaign finances. In 2023, he was fined $100,000 for misusing campaign funds on personal expenses (such as family vacations, children’s cellphone bills, clothing, meals, a cigar humidor, and other improper spending) and failing to properly report or provide receipts for tens of thousands more. He had initially agreed to a lower penalty but reportedly stopped payments, leading to the escalated fine.
• The Orange County Republican Party called for him not to seek reelection in 2019 amid the scandals, and many endorsements were withdrawn.
• After leaving office, Brough stated he was no longer pursuing elected positions. As of recent information, he works as a government relations consultant, political consultant, and lobbyist in the Dana Point area.

Politics is full of people with Zero self awareness and it makes anyone with any sense scratch their head and go WTH are these people thinking?

And we still have three months together in this Primary season. (Hint, I haven’t even talked about the Governor’s Race yet…)
