Dan Logue Vs John Garamendi – Logue has a net $125k and Garamendi has a net 215K.

The fact it is that close should have the DCCC in a tailspin. At +9 dem, this should be a hold for the dems. Garamendi from what I am told is not as popular as he should be in that district.

Or, maybe he’s lazy.

in CD-07 – the Fraud Doctor is sitting on $800k+. When you’re the number one target, it is easy to get the kool-aid drinkers out there.

Doug Ose’s report is lackluster and is quite a bit lower than I and others had expected. We expected him to be in the 750k range.  Ose did the usual paper $250k thing to inflate his number – but the net $230k on hand tells the whole story.

Igor Birman sits with a net $106k on hand.

The closeness of Birman to Ose is going to draw fire from the heavy-hitting IE groups in my opinon.

A Review of Ose’s reports shows that he has gone to a lot of his low-hanging fruit. A lot of the donors read like a who’s who of beneficiaries from his votes in Congress.

Elizabeth Emken is sitting on -6k net.

Moderate Republicans Jeff Denham and David Valadao look to be doing just fine in their upside down districts.

Tony Strickland is carrying the $400k he raised for CA26 in to CA25. Buck McKeon was hoping to pick his successor.

In CA26, neither Republican has a whole lot of money for a dem seat. Liberal Republican Jeff Gorrell has $100k in the bank.

in CA45 – I am wondering why Greg Raths and John Moorlach are running. Mimi Walters is burying both of them in money on hand, by over 11 to 1 in both cases.

Gary Miller in CA31 has a warchest

Raul Ruiz has a warchest to defend against Moderate Republican challenger Brian Nestande. This is the seat lost by liberal Republican Mary Bono-Mack.

The most bizarre info of all – is CA-09. Tony Amador who announced with much fanfare has $1200.

This is old news. That’s ok because my spin on it is not.

First off – the incredible article from the Marysville Appeal-Democrat.

The quotes are a consultant’s dream – if you’re Dan Sharp or Kim Vann:

I’m first and foremost a Marine, and a Marine puts country first,” Schaupp said. “In this case, it’s time for Charlie Schaupp to step aside and do what’s best for the country.

She’s proven to me she’s trustworthy and knows what she’s doing,” said Schaupp

It’s clear to me Vann is the one who should represent the party.

Charlie Schaupp ended Rick Tubbs’ hopes of getting anywhere past 5% of the vote.

Tubbs had arrogantly thought that he could muscle everyone out of the race and position himself as the conservative alternative. Tubbs has two problems (other than a cronic lack of money) his wife and himself.

Having seen Tubbs in action, he is a used car salesman who has little if any substance to what he talks about. (EDIT – sentence deleted)

Kim Vann deserves better and the GOP deserves better than to see a targeted Congressional Race be subjected to the bizarre sideshow of the Tubbs campaign.

Do I think Rick Tubbs will suspend his campaign for the good of the GOP? I doubt it.

However, as reported back to me by people who were there… Rick Tubbs looked flabbergasted that Charlie endorsed Kim Vann. The most flabbergasted person will be John Garamendi in November when he realizes that he is out of office for the first time in 30+ years.

One of the most telling things I heard about was when Charlie confronted Garamendi. Garamendi could not regain his composure the rest of the morning – it is amazing what happens to career politicians when they are forced back in to the real world.

Kim Vann is going to kick John Garamendi’s butt – and with a Marine’s Size-12 helping him off the side.

P.S. I deleted a disparaging comment about Kristy Tubbs – she is not the candidate, Rick is and as such, I should have left her out of it.

Charlie Schaupp’s CA-03 Announcement Gets Some Press

Contrast this to some of the quotes coming out of incumbent politicians:

“Garamendi does not fit this district,” he said. “This district needs someone who will represent farmers, military and small businesses.”

He’s not shy about where he comes from and how he wants the government to change.

“I am a Reagan Republican and believe in the principles of limited government and self reliance that made our nation great,” he said. “I am pro-life, pro 2nd Amendment and believe that local governments, not the huge fiscally irresponsible bureaucracies of the federal government, are best suited to solve our problems.”

“The federal government needs to do an about face,” he continued. “They need to restore fiscal responsibility. If the government had to earn their money, they would spend it more judiciously.”

Thank you to the Vacaville Reporter for the story.

Two days earlier the Woodland Daily Democrat also gave Charlie some love:

“I believe that we should ‘Restore Congress’ which means we must restore ethics, honesty, fiscal responsibility, common sense, personal accountability, trust and restore the values and principles of our Constitution.”

Schaupp’s family settled in the Hungry Hollow area of Yolo County more than 130 years ago and his family still farms 3,000 acres of various crops north of Esparto.

“For five generations, my family has worked to protect our community’s way of life and our agricultural heritage,” he said. “I also fought to protect our nation’s defense for 28 years in the U.S. Marine Reserve. I am not finished serving my country.”

Ladies and gentlemen – we have a race.
