As of the writing of this post – some development groups are still sitting on the sidelines… but one major stakeholder has said Sam’s our man.

That is the Roseville Police Officers Association – a major “Get” for Sam Cannon and Susan Rohan.

This is very different from the deceptively named Roseville Police Association which is dispatchers only… Sam and Susan got the real cops, the Ultra-Liberal David Larson got the dispatchers only…

This was a huge week for David Larson as the Rocuccis decided to join their fellow Liberal Democrats in unanimity behind David Larson – but public safety chose Sam Cannon and Susan Rohan.

This endorsement solidifies Sam Cannon’s and Susan Rohan’s Law-and-Order credentials.

This is another blow to the campaign of Tim Herman – as his campaign has been dependent on a number of contingencies – Union support being another one of them.

Sam Cannon – the candidate who speaks out most forcefully against PLA’s and in favor of the need for cuts and reductions in the size of government is the choice of law enforcement. (Other than David Brown)

While the liberals coalesce behind David Larson – the Roseville Police Union sees through and chose based on the merits, not ideaology…

Proof again that Repuiblican and Conservative values DO sell well in local Government.

One issue near and dear to the hearts of some in leadership in the Roseville Chamber of Commerce is a shop local ordinance…

This drew some interesting answers:

Susan Rohan who answered first said it is something that should be looked at for the pros and cons.

Dave Brown said flatly that such an ordinance would consitiute a government mandate and therefore should be opposed. (Right answer)

Sam Cannon basically said what Dave Brown did – but added that other municipalities have had mixed results with shop local ordinances – largely because they inhibit the ability to bid out jobs.

Tim Herman – says it is a “dicey” issue, but supports such an ordinance depending on how it is written

David Larson said such an ordinance is not necessary

Is Roseville business friendly?

Brown said that message has not gotten out

Cannon: Reminded people of the advantage of Roseville’s low utility rates and reiterated his earlier call for a jobs task force

Herman: Brown-nosed the Roseville Chamber audience (his home audience) and touted the new City Manager Ray Kerridge

Larson: Said yes while focusing his answer on how well Government works. (at least he is consistent)

Susan Rohan: Reform is necessary and it is necessary to strive for better.

The most important question was one of priorities:

From the Far Left – David Larson: Talked about attracting Green Jobs and protecting the jobs of city employees (aka Union Jobs)

From the not-so-far-left Tim Herman: Building Drexel University to attract more Tax Revenue

From the Right Susan Rohan: Dealing with AB32 and what it will do to Roseville’s Utilities. (as in vote yes on 23)

From the Right Sam Cannon: Reset the clock by rolling back costly mandates, deal with utility rates, promoting development

From the Tea Party Dave Brown: Protect Business, Dealing with Regulations, Shrinking Government, Re-Assess Public Employee Benefits

All in all the candidate forum was a great expose on the candidates.

Susan Rohan looked like the front-runner and was received as such.

David Larson came across and was received as a Liberal Labor Union candidate.

Tim Herman was speaking to his home audience – but confused or bewildered a few people in the audience with his answers.

Dave Brown captured the anti-government anger of the Tea Party well.

Sam Cannon won the forum based on substance (he lost some style points as he is not a “polished” speaker) – his brainiac answers to questions resonated with the largely conservative audience that was there.

As I blogged earlier – it is going to be an interesting race to see who finishes second behind Susan Rohan.

P.S. My money is on Sam Cannon.

Democrat establishment coalesces behind homosexual activist for Roseville City Council

Devastating Blow to Tim Herman’s campaign – Richard Rocucci and Pauline Rocucci choose David Larson and his “managed growth” and green policies over businessman Tim Herman.

David Larson – the Farmer’s agent whose business is listed in the LGBT directory (since pulled) as a preferred provider is now the choice of the Liberal Democrat establishment.

This is a crushing defeat for Tim Herman as he made a play to be the candidate to appeal to the left and the Center. But he lost the sweepstakes for a few of Placer County’s key Liberals…

Now David Larson is marching in to battle boasting the whos’ who of Placer liberals (and LGBT groups):

Supervisors Jennifer Montgomery and Jack Duran – the erstwhile leftist kingmakers of Placer County.

Rene Aguilera and Gary Miller from the Roseville City School Board and

Longtime Democrat Off-and-On Roseville City Councilmembers Pauline and Richard Rocucci…

Larson also received the endorsement of the LGBT Victory fund.

Interestingly – the Vicotry Fund wrote the following:

In 2008, a little more than half of the local voters cast their vote in favor of Proposition 8, which ended marriage equality in California.  It’s important that voters get to know people like David, who will work tirelessly for the city he loves while also being open and honest about himself and his spouse.

Really? I thought it was the Roseville Press-Tribune’s use of the word “Wife” that got that out in to the open… but I digress.

I wonder how Jefferson and Jackson would feel about Prop 8? Well their names are on the Placer County Democrat Party Website next to announcing David’s campaign kick-off party

The Stonewall Democrats – a club all about promoting Homosexual candidates for public office has A listed David Larson on their honor roll.

Larson is indeed to the Left of Tim Herman and represents the drive for Leftist purity that Rene Aguilera, Jennifer Montgomery and Jack Duran will apparantly seek from candidates they endorse.

The consequences for Tim Herman are severe – part of his strategy obviously included appealing to more of the left than just the group of Democrats he cited in his ballot statement.

This means he will have to double-down with the Roseville Chamber of Commerce crowd – many of whom are Conservative and could fly the coup after the candidate forum last week.

Will the developers and Chamber of Commerce groups pull through for Tim Herman or will Sam Cannon continue to frustrate Tim Herman’s efforts to break out?

You can see the shift in strategy as there have been some not-so-subtle attempts to tie Tim Herman to front-runner and prohibitive favorite Susan Rohan at public events. (Such as music in the park)

Bottom line – David Larson just became a legitimate force again and the odd man out could be Tim Herman.

Amazing.
