The purpose of this series is to share some of my 20 years of knowledge of the levers of power, the system and the like in order to inform those willing to read how they can really make a serious impact on the California Republican Party. Since it appears there needs to be a major league house-cleaning, (aka Burn it Down) hence the title.

Let’s introduce a few terms to alleviate confusion:

CRP / CAGOP Leadership = The people within the actual volunteer state party apparatus. These would include Jim Brulte the Chairman and Harmeet Dhillon the National Committeewoman. Without getting in to all the board members, etc. The CRP / CAGOP are supposed to manage voter registration drills, participate in trying to elect more Republicans, raising money at the state level, etc.  I used the two most recognizable figures in order to draw the distinction between CAGOP Leadership and…

Republican Leadership = These would include the morally corrupt Assembly Permanent Minority Leader Chad Mayes, and the Senate Minority Leader Pat Bates. There are also assistant leaders and Whips, etc. The distinction is that Republican Leadership are leaders amongst those elected to Partisan Republican Office. They are supposed to promote Republican Principles in Government.

County Central Committees / County Parties = Locally elected County Party Committees that appear on the ballot every 4 years. (Next time is 2020) They are allegedly supposed to raise money for local voter registration, turnout drills, recruit candidates for local office.

Volunteer Clubs = California Impact Republicans (CIR), Young Republicans (CYRF), College Republicans (CR), Congress of Republicans (CCR), Women’s Fed (CWF), California Republican Assembly (CRA), etc. These groups are supposed to function

There are basic functions of the party apparatus that I touched on in the above descriptions, but let’s list them:

  1. Voter Registration
  2. Candidate Recruitment
  3. Raising Money to Support 1 and 2
  4. Promoting Republican Values in the area they are supposed to manage
  5. The State Party Sets the Party Platform

So controlling the party apparatus has benefits for unprincipled people with agendas. The purpose of this series is going to be to discuss who the players are, what they are, how they control (or think they control) outcomes, when various opportunities manifest to interfere with the agenda of and of course why it all matters.

There is another Group of people to discuss, known as the “Third House”. The “Third House” is California’s version of “the Swamp”. The Third house are the political consultants, the lobbyists and the political action committees that wield influence over the legislative process and elections.

Beyond just looking at the surface to see the California Chamber of Commerce, PG&E, Chevron, the Dental PAC, CREPAC (the Realtors) and the Spirit of Democracy, you need to talk about the lobbyists and political consultants that have tentacles across multiple parts of the process.

Conventional wisdom is that you have to have third house support to win elected office. 95% of the time that is true. One of my goals behind writing this series is to help empower the “little people” despite my withering criticism of some of the groups, to take power and control away from the swamp.

I witnessed the power of the Third House first hand when they spent $2 Million helping to save the feckless, ineffective Beth Gaines from the Author of Prop 8, Andy Pugno. They spent the money for three reasons, 1. they could not allow a citizen revolt against an ineffective, incompetent legislator to succeed. 2. Pugno was not someone they could control or negotiate with and 3. Had Pugno won, it would have empowered citizen revolts in other districts. Separate yourself from the personalities and insert any incumbent and challenger in to the mix and the actions of the third house would have been the same.

This theme will repeat as it is my assertion that part of the nexus behind the suicidal decision of Chad Mayes and others to support the largest tax increase in state history is that they knew they would have little, if any risk of loss personally over doing it. The Third House, which will benefit mightily over this action will spend lavishly on the sell-outs, the party apparatus has been taken over by the Third House to a large degree and the volunteer groups, with the exception of CIR (which is very new) are all in decline.

So, on paper, when those that think they are smarter than us were plotting this pre-meditated sell-out of California as they believed they could get away with it.

My personal agenda is clear, I do not seek to profit from this series, in fact, it will likely cost me paid political work in California. I do not seek to control a movement as so many others have tried to.

I want you, the little people to become educated and informed so that you can organize and deal with the scourge that has prostituted Republican Values and led the State of California in to the third world economically. That means, a citizen’s guide to burning down the California Republican Party is for you to use as you see fit to make a real difference.

Stay tuned, this will continue. (PS, share this post liberally as knowledge is power)

I spoke, texted, messaged, etc. several members of the legislature. I won’t list their names in order to comply with some of their wishes to be off the record. This is a commentary on what I heard.

I have to start out by giving props to two of the most insane people I’ve ever met in politics – Ken Campbell and Thomas N Hudson, the CRA’s Pol-Pot Bellied Information Minister – both of these guys have serious personal issues but many years ago they both warned me about the power of Sacramento and what it does to people.

Ken Campbell in particular told me that you have to evaluate everyone by their personal core convictions and nothing else matters. Over the last 20 years, I’ve seen this play out repeatedly. Some of the biggest conservative frauds fell prey to their ego and self-importance. Liberals? They have no core convictions, so when a liberal / moderate / RINO collaborate with the commie-lib-socialists in Sacramento I was never surprised. Campbell’s problem is that his definition of Conservative changed with his medication levels, but if you took his advice and removed his insanity from it, it was spot on.

Thomas N Hudson, whose political life is replete with the skeletons of people he has skewered in his quest to be right, told me that Republican politicians that cut deals with democrats are fools.

Maurice Johannesen, Anthony Peschetti, Anthony Adams, Dick Dickerson, Abel Maldonado, Roger Niello and many others reside in the dust heap of political history after cutting a deal for things far, far less onerous than AB398. All saw their “deals” rescinded the very next legislative cycle as the democrats resent having to make a deal with anyone to serve their god of government.

Many of the liberals supported Proposition 14, which has created a shooting gallery for special interests. This has enabled PG&E, Chevron (two of the biggest winners from the wealth transfer known as Cap and Trade), the Realtors, the Dentists and the Charles Munger funded Spirit of Democracy to spend millions hunting principled conservatives. Rocky Chavez, Heath Flora and other Cap and Trade Supporters benefited from millions of this largess.

The same group spent huge on California Republican Party Central Committee Races and now that has come home to roost.

Chad Mayes, the morally and ethically challenged Assembly Minority Leader led 7 members of the Republican Caucus to vote for “Cap and Trade”. Senator Tom Berryhill was the 8th.

Cap and Trade is a tax on industry in the name of air pollution. These republican leaders believed that by engaging in this process that they could somehow make AB32 / SB32 less onerous on Californians. In so doing, they gave blessing to the second largest tax increase in California History.

In so doing, they put the Republican label on idling tickets hammering Truck Drivers. In so doing, they gave the GOP label to another ($.40-$1.40 depending on who you listen to) additional per gallon gasoline tax.

When I had the flooring put in to my house, it had a “CARB Compliant” sticker on it. How much you want to bet some poor person in Mississippi whose income is less than half of mine is buying the exact same flooring whose cost is inflated by the Republican Leadership backed plan?

How about that $15 hammer at Home Depot? Their prices are the same in the lower 48 states. This means that the poor of Arkansas are subsidizing the horrendous costs of doing business in California.

We are lectured that we need to get millenial voters. Millenials love the environment, so the solution is to jack up the cost of living and tax the poor?

We are lectured that we need to get latino voters, so the solution is to torch family farmers, replacing them with corporate farms living large off of my tax dollars (see also farm subsidies which were larded in to this cap and trade bill en masse) who lay off dozens of workers through consolidation?

They were so convinced they were right that they had TV ads that were likely produced two weeks ago that were just rolled out within hours of the vote being completed.

Years ago I was told it was abortion is a loser. I watched the democrats attack Tom McClintock in 2002 relentlessly over abortion while the liberals in charge of the California GOP poured $10 million in to the feckless Greg Conlon instead of McClintock who lost by 30,000 votes. It wasn’t abortion, it was the Republican Leadership refusing to support a Conservative. McClintock gets $1 Million he’d have won.

Years ago I was told we have to soften our stance on Gay Rights. Once Marriage was gutted, bakers are getting $130,000 fines for not doing cakes for gay weddings, Churches are getting threatened, dudes are marching down main street with a dress on and said pride celebrations involve having sex on sidewalks. Somehow, some in GOP leadership think endorsing these sorts of gateway drugs to societal dissolution are a good thing.

Years ago I was told we are too strident on Gun Rights. Now we have Republicans voting on Magazine Bans, and turning people that bought guns legally in to convicts after the fact.

Years ago I was told we have to support tax increases in certain circumstances because the system is broken. It wasn’t just small tax increases like Measure J, they have gone all out on Car Taxes, Sales Taxes, Massive Bonds, Massive Fee Increases and a potpourri that has seen the state budget detonate in to a third world mess.

I looked at the party platform again and read it. I was looking for anything in the California Republican Party platform that has been unturned by Republican “leaders” in the last few years.

I couldn’t find anything. Perhaps this is why some of the few remaining donors want to gut the platform so it means nothing. There is nothing like removing the measuring stick in order to escape accountability.

Remember the Central Committees? Yeah, the donors spent a couple million gutting crazy tea partiers, trumpanzees, conservatives and anyone else branded as a malcontents off of County Parties. Now the very people that would be screaming the loudest were all rounded up and shot politically by the same donor class fully invested in this horrifying prostitution of Republican values. Most of the Central Committees are controlled by legislative staff and political consultants.

Some wondered why I wrote about Chad Mayes cheating on his wife with Kristen Olsen the current CRP Vice Chair (who also cheated on her husband). Both claim Christian Faith and wear it out there publicly. Mr Mayes morally bankrupt personal behavior means something when you are looking for answers as to why our leaders consistently betray Republican values. Both are party leaders, and both need to resign their leadership posts – even though my profile of both of them says it will not happen.

So I sit here asking myself, what do I tell Republicans is the reason why to stay Republican? Why should a non-Republican register Republican? My pastor once said, don’t let Christians keep you away from Christ. It is still pretty difficult to become a Christian if public examples of Christians sleep with other people’s spouses. It is pretty difficult to talk someone in to joining a GOP grassroots group, much less registering as a Republican when the leaders of the party represent Democrat Party Values.

I am going to stay a Republican. I am going to continue lighting a torch and burning everything down. The current slogan of the CAGOP is rebuilding from the ground up… but there is still something left of the old regime. I am afraid it all needs to be burnt to the ground, purged and the ashes used to fertilize a completely new apparatus. My new slogan is BURN IT DOWN.

I had a legislative chief of staff tell me there is no place for Conservatives in California, and he was serious as he lamented his own irrelevance. The GOP leadership know in their hearts that the California GOP is on life support and desperately wanted to be relevant, and in the process they killed the California Republican Party.

I’ll be dammed if the most paranoid fantasies of Ken Campbell and Thomas N Hudson are coming true.

If you care about what is left of the CAGOP, stop and take a moment to read.

As most of you know, the Assembly GOP Leadership provided 7 critical votes to pass AB398, a $300B tax increase to extend the onerous Cap and Trade program until 2030. It also empowers the California Air Resources Board with unilateral power to ban products, set utility rates and jack up taxes on energy. It is estimated that a short-term impact of this will be  $.72 a gallon gas tax and doubling of utility bills.

Business groups supported this move as higher prices and artificial scarcity created by over regulation will drive up their profit margins. This is a reason why PG&E dropped in $1 Million to oppose the attempt to overturn SB32 upon which AB398 was based, creating the original global warming regulation hysteria.

Here are your #CAPANDTRAITORS:

In the State Senate, Termed out Senator Tom Berryhill voted yes as he had nothing to lose. He is out of office in 2018. Berryhill was supported with tons of establishment cash in his original election.

The establishment donors who line up behind liberal Republicans that will negotiate on everything are typically: PG&E, Chevron, CREPAC (the Realtors), the Dental PAC and the Spirit of Democracy PAC which is almost entirely funded by one donor Charles Munger.

When you take a closer look at the 7 Republicans that provided the deciding votes in the Assembly, 6 of the 7 received massive financial support from that cartel.

Heath Flora received almost $1 Million in support over San Joaquin County Supervisor Ken Vogel. Vogel was eviscerated with attack ads while the liberal Heath Flora cruised to victory. In his first term, Flora has responded the way his masters hoped he would.

Jordan Cunningham is a liberal Republican in a soft district on the coast. He was bolstered by hundreds of thousands in spending on his behalf.

Catherine Baker sits in a dem-leaning district in Contra Costa County. She openly campaigned as a supporter of Cap and Trade. She has received massive, in excess of $3 Million at this point support from the establishment.

Marc Steinorth sits in a swing district and this vote will likely cost him re-election in 2018. He was helped in to office by about $1 Million, kept in by another Million and I am not sure if $2 Million will save him in 2018 after this.

Rocky Chavez is a liberal Republican in a safe Republican Seat. The establishment spent about $500k trashing Sherry Hodges on his behalf. Chavez took the lead on this issue and likely has alienated a ton of people. It is unclear if he will face any sort of real threat as a result.

Brian Manschein is in San Diego, he voted yes on several procedural items, yet voted no on the final bill. It bears mention as I had been informed he was in the bag for the bill.

Assembly Permanent Minority Leader Chad Mayes was a the ringleader of the effort. He is awash in establishment cash

Lastly, and most perplexing, Devon Mathis voted yes. Mathis stunned the establishment with his victory in the Tulare County District he is in. Of all the above, I would think Mathis would be the most vulnerable to getting defeated in a primary.

Understand that about 30 years ago there was a shift where consultants and the donor community started to take over undue influence in the outcome of legislative elections. Term limits were installed, thus enabling the donors and stakeholders more influence and control of the election outcomes. When you have term limits experience goes out the door.

For those of us left – the only hope of dealing with this stuff is to burn down the CA GOP. Those that supported this measure need to be taken out in their upcoming primaries. Party leaders that did not stand up against AB398 need to be removed.

I’ve heard that many tea parties are fixated on Central Committees – taking over central committees will change little. Hitting the establishment in their pocketbook will. Taking out a few Republican incumbents would be a much better and much more effective way to deliver a message. The Republican establishment know that the Tea Party / Trump supporters are disorganized, like to in-fight a lot and are focused on things that don’t matter. This empowers them to do what they do.

Only when the establishment have a legitimate fear they will actually lose something will it cause change. If any of you reading care about my opinion and are willing to think this through, it is time to rally behind primary opponents for (all, including democrats) those that supported AB398. #BURNITDOWN

Today, the California Republican Party is going to turn the page on two more key principles of our platform. Regulation and Taxes.

We qualified a recall of State Senator Josh Newman based upon a $.12 Gas Tax Increase and as of right now Republican Leaders are preparing to cast the deciding votes to implement a $300 Billion Tax Increase known as Cap and Trade. Amongst the tax increases is $.72 a Gallon on gasoline.

Cap and Trade is not about the environment, it is about wealth transfer, economic control and more money to spend. Apparently, this is the new set of values that the Assembly GOP Leadership believe in as even the CAGOP Board of Directors went in to revolt at the concept.

Remember, if my electricity bill doubles, I still have to pay it. If a poor person on public assistance has a doubling electricity bill I STILL HAVE TO PAY THAT AS WELL. (Wealth Transfer: my taxes pay for other people’s support)

And, yes estimates state that Cap and Trade will double utility bills – which is why morally corrupt utilities like PG&E support this and spent big to prevent a referendum against the original bill AB32. How much will goods and services increase in cost as a result of this? 10%? 15%?

It is also fair to ask if staffers within government have personal conflicts of interest with firms that will benefit from higher prices? Are they advising Assembly Republican leaders in an honest and forthright manner? (and Democrats for that matter) Or, are they acting on behalf of the “side” clients (see also Cal Chamber, PG&E, MFG Association and others that have endorsed Cap and Trade)?

Why would anyone calling themselves fiscally responsible contribute another $300B to a state whose credit rating is one step above Junk Bond Status?

Why would the leadership of a party be so unfaithful to their rank and file?

This gets me back to Assembly Permanent Minority Leader Chad Mayes.

I never write about rumors of sexual impropriety unless I have a blue dress in my hand, or in this case that the issue is so widely known that reporters from major news sources are calling around asking about it.

Chad Mayes is in the middle of brutal divorce as such things go. One of the reasons is that Mr. Mayes is alleged to have been unfaithful (apparently, many times) to his wife. At the “Reformer’s Meeting”, eyewitness sources had Mayes “awfully close” to former Assembly GOP leader and current CA GOP Vice Chair Kristen Olsen.

The rumor of an affair between the two has spread statewide now, even though I have been aware of the rumor for about a year.

When you add that CAGOP Chairman Jim Brulte is going to retire as CAGOP Chair in 2019, this will hand the reigns over to Mrs. Olsen. This pattern should cause a five alarm fire in everyone’s head.

This will put two morally and ethically challenged people in control of 2/3 of the California Republican Party leadership structure. How can two cheating spouses claim any sort of moral clarity over anything?

It is indeed clear that this erstwhile power couple are taking steps to consolidate power and are attempting to be relevant in statewide politics.

If the information my sources have given me proves to be incorrect, in part or in full I will apologize and retract the inaccuracies. If I am right, and I believe everything I have written to be accurate, then the CAGOP is already dead and I have stumbled upon the cause of death after the fact.

Fresh off of gutting the Kings GOP in 2016, Mendes has been on fire.

Clearing out Downtown. Trying to sell assets of the city rather than fix them. Mendes supported a large pot farm in City Limits.

So it makes sense that Justin Mendes would support taking 18 acres of land that was designated to be a part of Hidden Valley Park and turn it over to developers? If you are trying to construct a hegemony, you need to remake the area in your own image. This would include clearing out the vestiges of the previous generation (aka selling off historic buildings, clearing out the downtown, etc.)

This would include remaking the future (aka bringing in a gigantic Pot Farm).

Consistent with a pot farm would be taking vacant land, undeveloped since the 1960’s and re-zoning it to residential so there could be more customers for the pot farm?

Everything has been a fight. Everything has been high drama. I remember what it was like when I was in my 20’s about how important it was to me to be right all the time.

Heck, Mendes wants to sell the Rabobank building in Downtown Hanford (another historic building) while opposing changes in Zoning that would allow the Bank to move elsewhere!

A would-be referendum against the re-zone of the 18 acre parcel was rejected by the City Clerk on a Technicality. Once, again while the paper of record down there takes a clear side in favor of the city’s decision, a discerning reader can see the clear nexus of the decision. (stuff dissent)

It is likely the City will be sued over this Mendes-led effort. This renders the excuse over gutting the downtown Kiosks even more absurd as the lawsuit over the technical rejection of the petition against the re-zone is far more eminent than any ADA Lawsuits. 1616

Perhaps all of this drama has taken its’ toll on Young Mr. Mendes. Perhaps the threat to not run for re-election was a bluff.

What is real is the destructive and drama-laden path Mr. Mendes has taken, all while working for one of the most vulnerable Republican Congressmembers in America.

It is possible that all of the people that Mendes helped oust from the Kings GOP amounts to little difference in the election.

It is possible that all of the people Mendes has mistreated as a City Councilmember amounts to little difference in the election.

It is possible that the ethics issues of Mendes associates amounts to little difference in the election.

It is possible that Mendes liberal political values, coupled with his marriage to a liberal democrat activist makes little difference.

However, when you combine off of this together, it is a disaster, creates headlines, hit pieces, resentments and unity amongst your enemies. Perhaps Mendes should resign now rather than wait. Or, as an alternative, maybe Congressman Valadao should terminate him from employment before he gets further damage in the political over-spray.
